Öl auf Leinwand. U.li. ligiert signiert "E Fraass.". Verso mit einer von Künstlerhand gestrichenen Landschaftsdarstellung (überkopf) sowie mit Etiketten der Galerie Hebecker, Weimar, und der Kunstausstellung Kühl, Dresden, mit umfassenden Bezeichnungen. In einer schwarzen Schattenfugenleiste gerahmt. WVZ Hebecker 5. Provenienz: Sächsische Privatsammlung; Kunstausstellung Kühl, Dresden, 2020; Nachlass des Künstlers. Bei dem vorliegenden Gemälde kann man sich des ... Eindrucks nicht verwehren, dass Fraaß motivisch Paul Gauguins berühmte Südseebilder zitiert. So innig wie die Figuren untereinander sind, so entrückt wirken sie auf den Betrachter. Womöglich ist dieses Gemälde ein Nachklang auf die Gauguin-Ausstellung, die 1910 in der Dresdner Galerie Arnold zu sehen war, in jenem Jahr, als Fraaß sein Studium an der Kunstgewerbeschule aufnahm. Allerdings wären solche Zuschreibungen wohl nicht im Sinne Fraaß'. In seinem Tagebuch heißt es 1921: "Wir haben in unserer Zeit deshalb so viel Ismusse, weil wir zu viel suchen, zu viel wollen und nicht innerlich befreit sind. Ein Kunstwerk erklärt sich selbst. Man schreibt zu viel über Kunst. Dadurch ver- wirrt man den Betrachter und macht ihn unfrei." (Zitiert nach WVZ Hebecker, unpaginiert).
