Linden wood, carved, polychrome painted, partially gilded. Mounted on a later wooden plinth with stand. Sebastian, patron saint against epidemics, was particularly venerated during times of plague. Sebastian, Schutzheiliger gegen Seuchen, wurde insbesondere zu Zeiten der Pest verehrt. Zu seinen Attributen zählen die Pfeile. Kaiser Diokletan befahl daraufhin seine Hinrichtung im Circus Maximus. Bereits im 4. Jahrhundert errichtete man über seinem Grab in der Sebastian-Katakombe die Kirche San Sebastiano fuori le mura.
